MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – The export of goods and services by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus increased by 30% in 2022, BelTA learned from Chief Academic Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vasily Gursky.

Vasily Gursky said: “In Belarus science develops largely thanks to support of the head of state and is practice-oriented. Last year was very tense but at the same time it was quite productive for the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The total volume of work and services done by the academy in 2022 increased by more than 20%. Meanwhile, the export of goods and services to other countries rose by 30%. The groundwork the National Academy of Sciences made even before 2022 worked out very effectively in the period of sanctions.”

The official also drew attention to the development of import substitution in Belarus. “Even before sanctions were introduced, the head of state repeatedly set import substitution tasks. In early 2022 he reminded of them once again and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus responded immediately. A catalog of R&D products our scientists had come up with to substitute critical imports was published. It included over 400 titles. This catalog was sent to all the interested government agencies. An import substitution plan was compiled afterwards. As a result, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus came up with over 200 import-substituting R&D products in 2022. The total volume of these products exceeded Br240 million,” Vasily Gursky said.

The General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is in session on 28 April. Taking part in the session are about 400 representatives of academic, university, and industry science, young Belarusian scientists. Participants of the session are expected to look into last year’s performance, tasks concerning the development of the National Academy of Sciences and Belarus’ scientific sphere in 2023. Apart from that, one can get familiar with the latest R&D products of organizations of the National Academy of Sciences in priority research areas at the exhibition offering Belarusian science accomplishments to the manufacturing sector.
