Experts to discuss Belarus’ participation in One Belt, One Road project

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Belarusian and Chinese experts will meet for an international conference in Minsk on 24 February to discuss the possibilities for Belarus in the One Belt, One Road project, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State University.

The forum will aim at strengthening Belarusian-Chinese cooperation, developing the scientific basis in the area of politics, economy, culture and bilateral public relations. The conference will gather over 100 Chinologists, culture experts, historians, economists and pedagogues from Belarus and China.

Speaking at the conference will be Director of the Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Li Yongquan, President of the Russian Association of Baltic Studies, Professor of Saint Petersburg State University Nikolai Mezhevich, and also representatives of government bodies, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, scientists from Belarus, China and Russia.

The conference is organized by the Confucius Institute for Sinology of the Belarusian State University in cooperation with the Chinese embassy in Belarus, the Economy Ministry and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The One Belt, One Road project was initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. The global project is aimed at developing and advancing a new model of economic cooperation through strengthening the existing bilateral and multilateral mechanisms and cooperation structures with the participation of China. The project includes Eurasian countries, connects developed and developing countries. The initiative will promote economic prosperity of the participating countries, strengthen cultural exchanges and ties between them.
