Every upgraded installation at Belarusian Naftan produces economic effect

VITEBSK, 30 July (BelTA) – Every upgraded installation at OAO Naftan produces an economic effect and results. Chairman of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim Andrei Rybakov made the statement during the ceremony held on 30 July to symbolically commission an elemental sulfur production plant based on the Claus process at the Novopolotsk-based oil refinery, BelTA has learned.

The official said that the elemental sulfur production plant is part of the delayed coking complex. “If we talk about individual installations in the complex, each of them produces its own economic effect. The environmental factor and import substitution are important. We will actually substitute raw materials, which are bought to make fertilizers, with Naftan products,” Andrei Rybakov said.

Vitebsk Oblast Governor Nikolai Sherstnev pointed out that the launch of the elemental sulfur production plant will improve the environmental situation in Novopolotsk. “It is no accident that the plant is described as the lungs of Novopolotsk. People understand the significance of this object for the city,” the governor stressed. Nikolai Sherstnev also thanked everyone, who had helped implement this project.

According to Naftan Director General Aleksandr Demidov, the modernization of manufacturing facilities is part and parcel of the company’s development program, which allows making competitive products and living up to requirements of the modern market. Raw materials are an important component in the process. At present Naftan takes persistent efforts to enable alternative deliveries of raw materials.

Aleksandr Demidov added: “We expect another tanker with U.S. oil in early August. It will be the ninth tanker this year. It will be about 900,000 tonnes on the average over the period of seven months. The program on delivering alternative oil will continue to be developed later on.”
