MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) - The European Union is ready to assist Belarus in developing the private sector of the economy, Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin told the media on the sidelines of the KEF Forum in Minsk on 6 November, BelTA has learned.
“We are ready to support Belarus in the areas which the country will designate, for example, in the development of the private sector,” Andrea Wiktorin said. According to her, the EU has already been doing quite a lot in this area. A roadmap to support small and medium-sized businesses has been drawn up in cooperation with the international financial institutions. In general, Andrea Wiktorin urged to focus on private sector since it is the backbone of the economy. “We also believe it is necessary to intensify the development of the regions,” she added.
Speaking during the discussion session at the KEF Forum, Andrea Wiktorin spoke about the approaches to raising foreign investment. She believes it is important to study investors’ interests. “We are ready to support Belarus through structural reforms support mechanisms and are willing to share our own experiences through the Twining project. I am very pleased that we have now launched a project with the National Bank which involves a consortium of Poland, Germany and Lithuania,” she noted.
Belarus is launching two projects with the support of the European Union to promote the development of the private sector, Andrea Wiktorin added.
