Corn harvest in Belarus reaches 28,000 tonnes

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Some 28,600 tonnes of corn has been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 13 September, some 7,140,800 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, was cropped in the country. This included 6,153,200 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and over 987,700 tonnes of rapeseed.

Harvesting of corn for grain is underway in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast, with 3,950 hectares of land already cleared. Some 28,600 tonnes of grain was threshed, with the yields averaging 72.2 centners per hectare.

Some 6,407,700 tonnes of corn for silage were cropped so far.

In addition to that, 28,700 tonnes of buckwheat (yields are 15.1 centners per hectare) and 14,600 tonnes of millet (yields are 19.9 centners per hectare) were threshed.

The flax straw harvest reached 90,400 tonnes.

Cereal and legume straws were harvested from 78.2% of the area.

Belarusian agricultural workers are harvesting potatoes. Some 164,300 tonnes of potatoes were removed from fields. The yield is 356.9 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet harvesting is underway in Belarus. Some 395,700 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields averaging 442.8 centners per hectare.
