CIS standardization bodies to discuss mutual trade development

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The CIS national standardization bodies will meet in Minsk on 10-12 April to discuss the development of mutual trade, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus.

The Belarusian capital will host the 55th meeting of the sci-tech commission on standardization and the second meeting of the working group on the organization of the work of interstate technical committees of the CIS Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification. Attending the events will be representatives of the national standardization bodies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan.

The agenda includes more than 20 issues in the field of standardization aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of products and services, promoting mutual trade and cooperation in the technical and economic sectors. Special attention will be focused on the improvement of interstate standardization activities. Experts will discuss draft amendments to the fundamental standards that establish procedures for the development of interstate standards (GOST), and also the draft order of their distribution. The participants of the meetings will also talk over the ways to increase the effectiveness of the activity of the interstate technical committees on standardization, which carry out the development of GOST in various sectors of the economy.

"Today GOST standards form the most of the national funds of the CIS countries. They are normative and technical support for the production of safe, quality and competitive goods and services, and contribute to reducing barriers in mutual trade. GOST standards are also used within the EAEU,” the press service said.

Experts are expected to work out recommendations and propose matters for discussion at the forthcoming meeting of the CIS Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification, which is due to be held in Uzbekistan in June 2018.
