GRODNO, 10 August (BelTA) – A Chinese company intends to buy Chetvertinsky Palace in the center of Grodno, BelTA learned from Grodno Vice Mayor Andrei Boltrik.
The corresponding agreement was signed in Grodno on 9 August. The Chinese investor expressed the intention to take part in a tender to sell the palace situated in Ozheshko Street, near the Gillibert Park.
“During one of the visits of the Gansu Province authorities to Grodno, this palace was viewed as one of the objects of strategic cooperation. One of the leading companies in the region has expressed interest in the acquisition of the facility,” Andrei Boltrik said. China is now going to participate in the tender. The price of the palace is about $1.2 million.
If successful at the tender, the Chinese company plans to reconstruct the palace. It may include a restaurant, a hotel, and business premises. It is possible that a center of traditional Chinese medicine will be opened there. A similar center has already been opened in Grodno. Apart from that, one of the Chinese companies has bought Grodno Hotel to transform it into a hotel and restaurant complex. The construction of the Chinese trade and exhibition center will be launched soon, as well.
The palace in the center of Grodno was built in the second half of the 18th century. Since then, the palace was rebuilt many times and changed a lot of owners. Following the liberation of Grodno and up to 2014 the palace was home to the military commandant’s office. Today the palace is empty.
