Chinese companies eager to invest in wind farm construction in Vitebsk Oblast

VITEBSK, 20 May (BelTA) – China intends to invest in building wind generators in Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA learned from Oleg Matskevich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, when asked about results of the visit of the delegation that comprised representatives of the government and the business circles of China’s Heilongjiang Province in the region.

The Vitebsk Oblast administration has signed an agreement with a Chinese corporation on building waste-processing factories in Vitebsk and Novopolotsk and on building hydropower plants and wind generators in Liozno District and Gorodok District. “As far as the wind generators are concerned, apart from the agreement we already have a provisional arrangement regarding investment by specific Chinese companies. Those will be direct investments. Our partners are ready to build a wind farm and will begin with Liozno. I think the work on the project will begin next year,” said Oleg Matskevich.

The official also noted that the Chinese partners had shown interest in cooperation in agriculture. “We are ready to work with them on zoning flax varieties and processing flax. They are interested in getting our flax fiber supplied to China,” noted the deputy head of the Vitebsk Oblast administration. Food industry projects are possible since the delegation liked Vitebsk products a lot.

A government conference on satisfying the domestic market with Belarus-made consumer goods took place in Vitebsk on 20 May. Heads of enterprises and representatives of major retail chains took part in the event. An exhibition of products made by the region’s main processing and light industry enterprises was arranged. During the conference the Vitebsk Oblast administration presented quality excellence awards based on performance in 2014.
