BREST, 26 June (BelTA) – China’s Gansu province would like to implement joint projects with Brest Oblast, Zhang Minjun, deputy head of the representative office of the Foreign Trade Association of Gansu province in Belarus told the media in Brest on 26 June, BelTA has learned.
Brest is hosting a delegation of the city of Baiyin, Gansu province. The delegation comprises Baiyin's officials and representatives of Baiyin's real estate business, trade, and construction materials manufacturers. “Belarus-Gansu relations have been developing very fast. We have implemented several projects so far. Brest Oblast has many promising agricultural projects. Being a large agricultural province, Gansu shows interest in this field. If any projects draw our interest, the chances are that some cooperation agreements will be signed,” Zhang Minjun noted.
Brest and Baiyin signed a letter of intent on promoting trade and economic relations merely a year ago. The sides seek to intensify cooperation. “There has been a substantial growth in our exports to China. In January-April 2017 they totaled $700,000, as against $50,000 in 2016. We primarily export food products but there is much potential for increasing the exports to the Chinese market. I hope this meeting will give an impetus to Belarus-China trade,” Deputy Chairman of the Brest City Hall Andrei Filanovich remarked.
The Belarusian side has arranged a business matchmaking session between the companies of Brest Oblast and their Baiyin partners. Among the attendees will be representatives of Brest Electric Lamp Plant, Brest Factory of Construction Materials, the Polesye textile company (Pinsk), the Brestpromalp company, and the Belovezhskiye Delikatesy meat manufacturer. The Chinese side is also set to visit Brest enterprises and learn more about the business environment in FEZ Brest.
The Chinese delegation has invited Brest officials and business representatives to pay a return visit to the Gansu province and Baiyin.
