MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – A total of 47,800 China-EU 20-foot containers were moved along the Belarusian railway in 2015, up 1.4 times from 2014, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Railways.
“Belarus provides transit for cargoes going from China to European countries, including Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic,” specialists said.
According to the Belarusian Railways, container trains spend less than 12 hours to cross Belarus from the station Krasnoye (the state border with Russia) to Brest. The mean speed reaches 1400 kilometers per day. “Thanks to technological advance in processing freight trains the time needed for technological operations in Brest has been reduced from 36 to 10 hours with transshipment and to six hours when transshipment is not needed,” the Belarusian Railways said.
On the whole, the Belarusian railway handled a total of 149,600 TEU containers in 2015.
