MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – Around 40 million yuan has been allocated for the waterway restoration project on the Usha River, Dmitry Spichek, chief engineer of the state-run melioration and water system construction and operation enterprise Minskmeliovodkhoz, told the media on 24 November, BelTA has learned.
“This project is very important for the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone. It involves China’s technical assistance. The project is designed to restore 13.5 kilometers of the Usha River waterway, five of them in the industrial park and eight and a half outside Great Stone. A wastewater facility will be built to draw rainwater and wastewater from Great Stone after treatment. Some 40 million yuan (over Br12 million) has been allocated for the project. The construction works are expected to take 20 months,” Dmitry Spichek said.
The general contractor is the 25th company of the China Railway Construction Corporation. “The general contractor agreement envisages a shorter construction period (14 months) and a lower cost (35 million yuan). We hope that the Chinese partners will involve Belarusian companies in the construction, too,” the chief engineer noted.
“Belarus welcomes China’s assistance with the River Usha restoration,” Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky said at the ceremony to launch the project and thanked the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
A delegation of the ministry is in Belarus on a visit from 22 to 25 November. Several technical and economic assistance projects were launched during the visit on 24 November.
