MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – There is no need to rush with privatization, EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti said in an interview with the Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Some countries conduct privatization for the sake of privatization. Such examples are many. We believe in a different approach. We consider privatization as an important and long process,” the EBRD head said.
In his words: “We cooperate with the Belarusian authorities in the potential privatization of companies and banks. Neither we nor your government rushes with decisions. We do not say that everything should be done as early as tomorrow. We believe that there is a certain set of rules that helps improve the operation of the state banks that are planned for privatization. Such optimization make them more attractive for investors. Privatization also means additional funds.”
The same algorithm should be used in relation to companies, Suma Chakrabarti added.
