Call to convert potential of Belarusian Polesie region into new contracts

Call to convert potential of Belarusian Polesie region into new contracts

MOZYR, 28 August (BelTA) – We need to convert the potential of the Polesie region into new contracts, exports and new international contacts, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told the media on the sidelines of the Mozyr Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.

Hailing the Mozyr Economic Forum, Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that the event is held for the first time within the framework of the Day of Commercial Advisor. “The BelCCI organizes such days at least once a year. The mission of such events is to present a region's resources, investment, economic and industrial potential. Mozyr and Polesie as a whole is of particular importance for the social and economic development of the country. Mozyr is one of the 11 cities in Belarus that have been selected for advanced social and economic development in the next five years

According to Vladimir Ulakhovich, the main task is to use the potential of Polesie, to convert it into new contracts, exports, the development of the economy, new production facilities and technologies. “We want the diplomats, who are responsible for trade and economic cooperation with Belarus in their embassies, to meet with the heads of enterprises to learn more about them, their manufacturing potential. They will see the opportunities that can be harnessed to develop bilateral ties between enterprises and countries,” Vladimir Ulakhovich stressed.

Any business starts with the first steps, so introductory trips are important, Vladimir Ulakhovich noted. Some of the diplomats have come to Mozyr for the first time, he said. “The forum is not only about the potential of the region but also about the movement towards each other in the search of new economic ties and, most importantly, new export contracts,” he said.

The economic forum in Mozyr has welcomed diplomats from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Iran, Lithuania, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Sudan, and Uzbekistan. Representatives of other Belarusian regions have also arrived in Gomel Oblast.

Commercial Attache of the Lithuanian embassy in Belarus Julijus Glebovas has been to Mozyr many times. “Our Lithuanian business is interested in this region. Lithuania is among the top five countries importing products of Mozyr District. Despite the distance, we find areas of common interest. We are talking about a wide range of products: from oil products and woodworking goods to salt and many others. We have a lot to strive for and develop,” he said.

Chairwoman of the Mozyr District Executive Committee Yelena Pavlechko got visitors familiar with the economic and investment potential of Mozyr District. The forum has featured the opportunities and resources of Mozyr Machine-Building Plant, Belaruskabel, Mozyr Woodworking Plant, Mozyr Dairy Products, as well as the investment project Ice Arena in Mozyr. The diplomats will continue their acquaintance with the region and its historical and cultural heritage on 29 August.

Events timed to Day of Commercial Adviser are traditionally organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They are held in various parts of Belarus and are meant to promote the country’s economic potential. Foreign diplomats get familiar with a certain region, visit local enterprises and historical sites, and taste products by Belarusian manufacturers. This year, these activities are centered around the Belarusian Polesie area.
