GOMEL, 26 May (BelTA) - Under the current conditions, the tourism business in Belarus and Russia have an opportunity to refocus markets on domestic travel and new destinations, Gomel Oblast Vice Governor Dmitry Aleinikov said at the panel discussion “Time to Travel – Studying Experience, building Prospects”, held as part of the 24th edition of the Spring in Gomel International Exhibition, BelTA has learned.
According to Dmitry Aleinikov, tourism development in Belarus is an important factor for social and economic development of the country, and one of the ways to revive and popularize cultural and historical heritage. Belarus and Russia are actively developing cooperation in tourism, the Gomel Oblast vice governor said. He stressed that the geography of projects had changed following the coronavirus pandemic and sanctions imposed by the collective west against Belarus and Russia. “Today, the tourism business of the two countries is given an opportunity to reorient the markets to domestic travel and new destinations. The Union State program on tourism is aimed at the alignment of the legislation of the two countries in this area. Agreements on cooperation have been signed, and the possibility of opening direct flights to the Russian regions is under consideration,” Dmitry Aleinikov said.
“Gomel Oblast is the largest region of Belarus, rich in unique natural, economic, intellectual resources and has significant tourist appeal. Having such tourist potential, we have to preserve and multiply our opportunities, outline new areas of work and further development of the sector,” Dmitry Aleinikov said.
