MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – It is necessary to build up an efficient recycling system in Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko said as he talked to scientists after a ceremony to present Doctor of Sciences diplomas and Professor certificates in Minsk on 25 January, BelTA has learned.
“Recycling is a very important issue for Belarus,” the president said. He noted that in a number of countries glass bottles are mostly made of recycled raw materials. “What about us? You think we are rich. No, we are just disorganized and careless,” the Belarusian leader underlined.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that the Belarus President Administration was tasked to take this matter under control. “Waste, scrap paper, scrap metal of all kinds, and most importantly plastic – this all should be collected. Order should be in place everywhere,” the president noted.
He added that almost all beverages in Belarus are sold in plastic bottles. The president cited a study in Russia that suggests that low-quality nutrition is a leading cause of deaths.
“Progressive countries who really care about their citizens are giving up plastic. I have recently ordered to start replacing plastic bottles and packaging with glass. After all, we have a well developed glass industry. This should be done right away,” the head of state concluded.
