Businessmen of Belarus, US state of Utah to strengthen cooperation

MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – The business circles of Belarus and the US state of Utah have plans to strengthen their ties. The plans were discussed during the recent working visit of Charge d'Affaires of Belarus to the United States Pavel Shidlovsky to Salt Lake City, Utah, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit was aimed at establishing contacts with the Utah state authorities, business associations and leading universities to boost trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation. Attending the meetings also were Honorary Consul of Belarus to Utah Dennis Neuenschwander.

Pavel Shidlovsky met with Franz Kolb, Director at the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development. The parties discussed prospects for the development of cooperation between Belarus and Utah and opportunities for establishing contacts between the business circles. “They agreed that a Belarusian business delegation will visit Utah, and that Belarusian businessmen will attend several major international and regional trade shows and fairs to be held in the US state,” the press service added.

Opportunities for cooperation in high technology and information technology were discussed at a meeting with Jonathan Jackson and John Huntsman, representatives of the Utah Technology Council.

Pavel Shidlovsky also met with Jennifer Andelin, Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Promising areas for science and technology cooperation between Belarusian and US universities and research institutions were discussed as the meetings with Kevin Worthen, President of Brigham Young University, and Baldomero Lago, Assistant Vice President at Utah Valley University.

Pavel Shidlovsky gave a lecture “Belarus at the crossroads of Europe: promoting partnerships, security, and stability” to the students and faculty of Brigham Young University. The diplomat presented Belarus’ foreign policy priorities, spoke about the geopolitical location of the country, and Belarus’ relations with the United States in general and and the state of Utah in particular.
