Budapest shows interest in expanding cooperation with Minsk in municipal services

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Budapest is interested in expanding cooperation with Minsk in the area of municipal services, Budapest Mayor Istvan Tarlos told the media after the talks with Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

Istvan Tarlos stated that Minsk and Budapest signed an agreement on cooperation in November 2016. “Today we are mulling over the expansion of the agreement. First of all, these are municipal issues. We also suggest expanding cooperation in culture, sport and tourism,” he stressed.

The Budapest mayor noted that full understanding was reached with Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets on every issue discussed. “We have agreed to name responsible persons in both city halls of Budapest and Minsk who will be in charge of the implementation of our agreements,” said Istvan Tarlos.

Andrei Shorets for his part emphasized that Minsk and Budapest have been building up constructive relations. Bilateral cooperation is even more fruitful that with a number of Minsk sister cities. “Minsk is currently hosting Budapest Days. The program includes a business forum, cultural events and many more. This shows that the delegation of Budapest has serious intentions. The plan of actions that will be developed after the visit will become a basis for further development not only between the two cities but also between the two countries,” the Minsk mayor said.

The Budapest Days are held in Minsk on 10-12 April. The Belarusian-Hungarian business forum and a business matchmaking session are scheduled for 11 April. Attending the events on Hungary’s behalf will be representatives of the Zahony regional business zone, the Budapest Festival and Tourism Center, banks, the Hungarian Seed Association, the Kern Winery, producers of hybrid seed corn, equipment for the meat industry, brake systems for cars and trucks, and other products. The Hungarian ensemble of folk music will perform at the Upper Town Concert Hall in the evening.
