MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The biggest trading in plant protection agents has taken place at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), BelTA learned from spokesman Roman Yaniv.

“A total of 87 transactions were made to reach Br1.2 million. The trading has proved to be the biggest in the volume of the sales as well as the most competitive in the BUCE history,” the BUCE representative said.

Twenty sellers and eight buyers took part in the trading. Such a big number of suppliers contributed to a reduction in the price by 10% during the trading session. A 15% decline in price was registered across several bids. Domestic agricultural companies got a chance to save on the purchase of plant protection agents.

This commodity, according to the BUCE, has been on offer for a long time. The trading, however, was held only when applications were received. Recently, this position has been regularly traded in the section of the BUCE promising exchange commodities.

According to Maksim Khomich, the head of the division supervising the area, a high level of competition at the recent trading was quite expected. “The BUCE worked hard to attract manufacturers and direct suppliers. By doing this, we did our best to address two tasks, i.e. to ensure the maximum supply and to cut off unnecessary intermediary links,” he said.

Since Belarus imports millions of US dollars worth of plant protection products annually, the wider use of the exchange mechanism in the procurement of this commodity will reduce the cost of Belarusian agricultural products and increase the profitability of agricultural enterprises.
