BARANOVICHI, 13 February (BelTA) – In 2018, Brest Oblast almost doubled the exports to China, Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis said as he met with the staff and students of Baranovichi State University, BelTA has learned.
According to him, promoting cooperation with China is one of the priorities for the region as part of the efforts to diversify exports. “Export supplies to China grew almost twofold last year and amounted to $23.2 million. In 2019, Poultry Plant Druzhba already made the first shipment of poultry to China. Such products are in demand on the Chinese market and we will increase the volume of poultry production in Baranovichi District,” Anatoly Lis said.
In 2018, Brest Oblast companies exported a total of $2.4 billion worth of goods, which was up by 6%. The surplus totaled $652.3 million. Brest Oblast exported its products to 101 countries and branched out into 10 new markets: Aruba, Ghana, Gibraltar, Cambodia, Kuwait, Liberia, Lichtenstein, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Uruguay.
Russia accounted for 70% of the region’s exports (85% three years ago). Last year the region reported a 38% increase in the export to the European Union and a 1.7 times increase in the shipments to distant countries (Africa, Asia, Australia, Oceania).
In 2018, Brest Oblast exported $290.8 million worth of services (up by 17.3%). Brest Oblast’s major export services were transport, construction, computer technologies, tourism, healthcare, and education.
