MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Brest Oblast is interested in establishing close cooperation with Vietnam’s Lao Cai, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Economy Committee at the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Batsenko.
The Belarusian and Vietnamese regions have signed an agreement on cooperation. It envisages the establishment of mutually beneficial relations in trade, economy, science, technology, and culture. “At first, we had begun work with Vietnam, after that we signed a joint agreement to promote the development of our relations,” Mikhail Batsenko remarked. “Last year the export to Vietnam went up five times in comparison with 2015. In January-April 2017, it made up $465,700, up six times from the same period of 2016. We can assume that such trends will prevail in the future. There is a big and dynamic market. We need to penetrate it.”
Brest Oblast enterprises export meat and by-products, dairy products, engines and power supply units to the Southeastern country. There are great prospects for expanding cooperation. “OAO Saleo Kobrin has delivered a pilot batch of products with a high added value – engines and power supply units – to Vietnam this year. The relations will be developing. Belsolod is now mulling over the possibility to gain a foothold on the Vietnamese market. Kobrin-based Polesie is in talks on the export of toys. Brest Distillery is also mulling over the possibility to branch out into the Vietnamese market,” Mikhail Batsenko said.
Brest Oblast’s foreign trade exceeded $1.2 billion in January-April 2017. The region exported $717 million worth of products. Brest Oblast products were delivered to 81 countries. The export to countries of the distant arc went up 25%.
