Brest, Khmelnitsky intend to set up joint ventures in agriculture

BREST, 10 November (BelTA) - Brest Oblast of Belarus and Ukraine’s Khmelnitsky Oblast have an interest in setting up joint ventures in the agricultural industry. This matter was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Tokar and Vice Chairman of the Khmelnitsky Oblast State Administration Vladimir Kalnichenko, BelTA has learned.

The Khmelnitsky Oblast delegation headed by Vladimir Kalnichenko is in Brest Oblast on a three-day visit. During the meeting in the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Tokar noted that this year the merchandise trade between Brest Oblast and Ukraine has been growing. Thus, in January-September, the region's manufacturers exported the goods to the tune of $48 million to the neighboring country, including nearly $1.7 million worth of goods to Khmelnitsky Oblast.

According to Vladimir Kalnichenko, there are many areas where the two parties can cooperate and strengthen the relationship. One of the most promising areas is to set up joint ventures, particularly in agriculture. “There was a proposal to create a plant to produce seed corn. We have natural conditions for growing corn but have no money to implement the project. Farmers have the technology and tools. Creating such an enterprise would benefit both sides,” he said.

The Khmelnitsky Oblast delegation came to Belarus to get familiar with the agrarian sector, to study the conditions of interaction between producers and processing companies. The guests already traveled to Ivanovo District and Pinsk Disttrict and are set to visit Brest Electro-Mechanical Plant, Savushkin Product Dairy, and Brestselmash plant. The visit will end on 11 November with a ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal flame in Brest Fortress.
