MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) - Dynamic tests are about to begin at the first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), Chief Engineer of the Belarusian nuclear power plant Anatoly Bondar said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel on 24 November, BelTA has learned.
Now specialists are gradually increasing the capacity of the BelNPP first unit, doing tests and taking measurements. The next stage is pilot commercial operation. Specialists will carry out tests at different power levels, with both increase and decrease in power.
“We are almost ready for dynamic tests. They imply the discharge of thermal load and correspondingly electric load, the disconnection of the unit from the grid and stoppage of the turbo generator,” Anatoly Bondar noted.
“The most important thing is to test all the equipment systems at different power levels and deliver a fully compliant unit so that the customer could operate it smoothly in the future,” said Vitaly Polyanin, ASE Company Vice President and director of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project.
According to him, work on the second power unit continues. "Construction of the second unit is progressing well. The work on a second unit always goes a little easier than a first one. We are now carrying out the operations in the reactor department related to the flushing of hydraulic testing systems. We are set to begin hydraulic testing of the primary circuit in March next year,” he said.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The engineering division of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor.
