MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) - Belarus will continue to seek compensation of $84 million from the Lithuanian company Orlen Lietuva for oil pumped out of the Lithuanian section of the Druzhba pipeline, BelTA learned from spokesman for the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim Aleksandr Tishchenko.
According to the BNS agency, on 7 May the Supreme Court of Lithuania dismissed the appeal of Gomeltransneft Druzhba, the operator of the Belarusian section of the Druzhba pipeline.
“This decision is not final. The Lithuanian legislation allows for multiple appeals. We will continue this work,” said Aleksandr Tishchenko.
The dispute concerns technological oil, which Orlen Lietuva pumped out of the inactive Lithuanian section of the Druzhba pipeline. Belarus believes that this oil is its property. The claim was initially filed by Polotsktransneft Druzhba, which was later merged with Gomeltransneft Druzhba.
