MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – In January-August 2023 the export of products made by companies affiliated with the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom to Iran rose more than 1.6 times, BelTA learned from Bellesbumprom Press Secretary Svetlana Shiyan.
Bellesbumprom’s enterprises keep working on redirecting their exports to new sales markets. Yet, the export growth was fairly high in the markets where Bellesbumprom has an established presence. Thus, in January-August 2023, the export to Iran expanded more than 1.6 times year-on-year. The concern exports cellulose, plywood, and wood boards to Iran. It is generally acknowledged that Belarus and Iran should intensify cooperation to counter Western pressure. That was what Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber on 17 October.
In March 2023 the parties agreed to develop a long-term action plan to ramp up bilateral trade. As a result, a comprehensive cooperation roadmap for 2023-2026 was signed. To promote Belarusian exports to distant countries and forge new contacts, industry representatives have traveled to Tehran on a business trip. The Belarusian delegation included Yuri Berdovich, Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs of Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill.
