Bellesbumprom pulp, paper export almost 30% up in January-August

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – Pulp and paper enterprises affiliated with the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom boosted export almost by 30% in January-August 2020 year-on-year, BelTA learned from the Bellesbumprom press service.

“Thanks to efforts to upgrade the existing facilities and build new ones, the pulp and paper industry has been steadily developing, increasing output and export. In January-August, the output of pulp and paper enterprises soared by 26.1% over the same period of 2019 to total Br536.6 million. Export grew by 29.7% to $140.2 million. A total of 68.6% of output is bound for export. This figure stood at 55.7% in 2019 and at 48.5% in 208,” the press service said.

Paper, cardboard, paper and cardboard products, wallpaper, pulp, and wood chemical products made by enterprises of the pulp and paper industry are supplied to 40 countries. Apart from the CIS countries, the list of export markets includes Iran, India, Egypt, Turkey, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and many European countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, the UK, Hungary, and so on.

Most pulp produced at a new facility at Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill is shipped to China and Russia. All in all, the enterprise exports pulp to 14 countries. In January-August, it exported 152,600 tonnes of pulp worth more than $66 million. Belarusian wallpaper is also in demand in 14 foreign markets, including the CIS and the EU countries, such as Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Poland.

In recent years, the wood chemical industry has also been picking steam. Export of the chemical enterprise Lesohimik rose almost to $15 million in January-August 2020. The enterprise processes pine pitch and makes rosin, turpentine, various resins and oils. These products are popular among manufacturers of tires, cable products, petrochemical products, nitrogen fertilizers and other fertilizers and components.
