MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) - The processing of domestic raw materials helps strengthen the country’s import independence, Chairman of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom Mikhail Kasko told the media.
“The development of industries based on the processing of domestic raw materials is an important factor in strengthening the economic sovereignty of the country. We have developed production facilities to process valuable raw materials such as timber. Its comprehensive processing helps us make competitive products, and strengthen the import independence of our country in the woodworking and pulp and paper industry,” Mikhail Kasko said.
He stressed that from the strategic point of view the modernization of industry production, preservation of the scientific school and personnel were of great importance. “Such decisions lay a strong foundation for the economic security of the state, its sovereignty and independence,” Mikhail Kasko said, pointing out that such tasks were also set by the head of state during the recent Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly.
Bellesbumprom pays great attention to import substitution: in 2022 the concern manufactured import-substituting products worth nearly $1 billion. Bellesbumprom also sells abroad. Exports are growing to friendly countries, especially to the Russian Federation. In January-February 2023, Bellesbumprom's enterprises increased exports to Russia by 34%.
