MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – The national air carrier Belavia is exploring a possibility to launch low-cost flights from regional airports, Director of the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry Artem Sikorsky has told the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are considering low-cost business models for Belavia. We have appropriate aircraft and regional airports that are able to offer them low tariffs. We are also thinking of the most promising destinations for low-cost flights now,” Artem Sikorsky said.

In addition to that, the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry signed a memorandum with the aviation administration of Hungary. “We have allowed Wizz Air to operate flights both to Minsk National Airport and regional airports. Wizz Air is now in talks with Minsk National Airport on the terms of operation and tariffs,” the director of the department said.

In his words, low-cost companies ask for certain subsidies to keep their fairs low. “We are not ready to provide subsidies to foreign airlines, but we are willing to offer them comfortable operation terms,” Artem Sikorsky underlined.
