MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – A technology has been developed in Belarus for manufacturing materials for optical mirrors for space equipment, BelTA learned from Alexander Ilyushchenko, Director of the Powder Metallurgy Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The official said: “One of the technologies we have developed is used in aerospace industry. It is a technology for making intermediate products out of silicon carbide. A specialized shop is being set up now to make silicon carbide intermediate products as well as composite materials for optical mirrors for space equipment.”
Belarusian scientists have mastered the technology for producing carbon-carbon composites. “A few countries possess the technology: Russia, Ukraine, the USA, France, China, and Belarus. Today we make 3D and 4D carbon-carbon composite materials,” noted Alexander Ilyushchenko.
Apart from that, the institute has developed a number of materials for special applications.
