MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists are ready to build the Vostochny spaceport, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Primorsky Krai Governor Oleg Kozhemyako on 22 September, BelTA informs.
“Right now we will scrutinize this project once again, and the president [of Russia] asked me to do it. I would like our builders to have an opportunity to take part in the construction of this spaceport. It would be great to demonstrate the capabilities of our construction workers. I am ready to provide a brigade or two. The main thing is to agree on cooperation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president emphasized that the Belarusian construction industry is competitive in terms of quality and prices for services. “Even the Japanese or the Koreans are hardly better than us in this regard,” he said.
The construction of the Vostochny spaceport neat the town of Tsiolkovsky in Amur Oblast began when Oleg Kozhemyko was its governor. Therefore, he is aware of the current objectives and plans to develop the infrastructure of the housing complex. “The work on the spaceport should meet high-quality standards, the participation of Belarusian builders will be, I think, a good step forward and a good incentive for our builders,” Oleg Kozhemyako told reporters after the meeting with the Belarusian head of state. He promised to speak for Belarus in this regard.
He said that Primorsky Krai is now also doing its best to build a rocket-launching site. A floating spacecraft launch service Sea Launch was relocated to the port near Vladivostok from the USA in spring.
The delegation of Russia's Primorsky Krai arrived in Belarus on a visit on 19 September. The Russian governor met with the prime minister of Belarus, the agriculture and food minister, and his Mogilev colleague. The delegation of the Russian region visited Belarusian machine-building and food enterprises, held talks with their senior executives.
