MOSCOW, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia signed $450 million worth of contracts during the fourth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on 30 June.
The work to sign agreements and contracts continues. There are plans to sign a total of about 77 agreements of various levels as a result of the forum. The contracts are massive, stressed Mikhail Myasnikovich. As an example he mentioned that documents had been signed on cooperation in large-scale chemistry and fine chemistry, in space technologies.
Valentina Matviyenko, head of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, added that the quality of joint projects is more important than quantity these days. “We are reaching a brand new level of partnership and the exhibition is a case in point. There are many high-tech projects on display. The topics the forum covers are well-timed,” she said. “We have to move forward. We have many ideas and new projects. I am convinced that the effect will be massive.”
The fourth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia takes place in Moscow on 29-30 June. The forum’s plenary session was focused on the partnership of Belarusian and Russian regions in the sphere of information technologies, innovations, and information society. An exhibition has been arranged as part of the forum to showcase Belarusian-Russian projects in the sphere of innovations and high technologies as well as youth projects. A fair selling products of about 60 Belarusian companies has been opened as part of the forum as well.
The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has been organized with a view to facilitating the expansion of direct contacts between the countries, including contacts between legislative and executive government agencies and business circles. The forum is supposed to work out recommendations on improving the legal base for the sake of accelerating the development of the Belarusian and Russian economies. The forum has been organized under the aegis of the upper chambers of the Belarusian and Russian parliaments.
