Belarusian Railways ready to transport cargo from Great Stone park to EEU, EU

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Railways is ready to arrange transportation of cargo from the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the European Union, Vladimir Morozov, Head of Belarusian Railways, said at a conference to discuss the role of the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone in the development of the Belarusian transport and logistics system held as part of the Belarusian Transport Week, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian Railways, which operates key transport corridors of the Silk Road and is located on the border between the EEU and the EU, is a major transport and logistics hub today. It is ready to provide safe and timely rail transportation of cargo from the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union at competitive prices,” Vladimir Morozov noted.

He added that for transport companies, it is especially important to understand and create conditions for the provision of transport and logistics services to the residents of the Great Stone park. Vladimir Morozov pointed out that, in this context, Belarusian Railways pursues an investment policy aimed at replacing the fixed assets, upgrading the rail infrastructure of the country, and strengthening Belarus’ transit potential. In 2011-2016, Belarusian Railways allocated over $2.5 billion for these purposes. Special attention is paid to electrifying and upgrading railroad sections, increasing the speed at which trains can operate, and using new-generation trains.

“We develop our logistics centers and aim to be an integrated service provider. The center in Kolyadichi is a well-established logistics center that uses advanced technologies. We invest in infrastructure, trains. Belarusian Railways is the owner of infrastructure that operates the national rail network and has subsidiaries. The company Belintertrans, a transport and logistics center with offices in Germany, Russia, Lithuania and China, is one of them. We closely cooperate with our partners from Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Poland and Ukraine,” Vladimir Morozov emphasized.

Belarusian Railways attaches great importance to increasing the rail transport of Chinese cargoes. The stable growth in the container traffic between China and Western Europe attests to this. Some 75,200 containers were transported along the Europe-China-Europe route in January-August 2016, which is 2.4 times as many as over the same period of 2015. However, Vladimir Morozov stressed that the company aims for much higher figures.
