Belarusian Railways gets first Stadler seven-car electric train

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Railways has acquired the first Stadler seven-car electric train for interregional business class transportation from ZAO Stadler Minsk, the Belarusian Railways press service told BelTA.

A total of two seven-car electric trains are supposed to be delivered in line with the contract signed by Belarusian Railways and Stadler Bussnang AG. The second one is expected to arrive in February 2016. Both trains will be used for interregional travels in the electrified sections of the Belarusian railroad system.

Seven-car electric trains have a number of advantages for comfortable travels over long distances. The new train offers vast interior space, convenient and adjustable seats, and a buffet. One of the cars has a multifunctional area for people with physical disabilities and passengers with prams and bicycles.

A seven-car electric train has 382 seats, including 16 first-class ones, which are combined into an independent area with increased comfort in one of the leading cars.

The first seven-car train is now in the temporary customs control zone. Once the customs procedures are over, startup and commissioning operations will be carried out. Belarusian Railways intends to run acceptance and certification trials of the new rolling stock.

In the future Belarusian Railways intends to continue cooperation with ZAO Stadler Minsk for the sake of buying modern rolling stock, BelTA has been told.
