Belarusian PM meets with president of Uzbekistan
TASHKENT, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko met with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on 25 April, BelTA has learned.
The parties discussed with key issues of bilateral cooperation in various fields, including the economy.
"Our visit is taking place in a very difficult time, a time of trials for the Belarusian society, for our economy in connection with the suffocating sanctions pressure from the collective West," Roman Golovchenko said.
The Belarusian government has draw up a wide range of measures to level off the negative impact of the anti-Belarusian sanctions. “We also count on the help of our Uzbek friends and partners with import substitution and redirecting our export flows from the unfriendly markets. Belarus and Uzbekistan had a flourishing trade in recent years which his record figures in 2021. Yet we believe that the potential of our trade and economic cooperation is much higher," the prime minister stressed.
In 2021, the trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan amounted to $301.9 million, which was up by 7.8% from 2020. Exports came at $245.4 million (an increase of 3.3%). Belarus had a surplus of $188.9 million in trade with Uzbekistan.
Belarus’ major exports to Uzbekistan in 2021 were specific goods, meat and meat products, medicines, vinyl chloride polymers, milk powder, diagnostic reagents. The imports from Uzbekistan included cotton yarn, fresh and dried fruit, specific goods, rolled copper, and bedding.
In Uzbekistan there are 103 organizations founded by residents of Belarus, as well as representative offices of Avtopromsnab Spedition, Softclub, AmantisMed and BelVitunipharm.
In Belarus there are 117 organizations founded by legal entities and individuals of Uzbekistan.
The AMKODOR-AGROTEXMASH joint venture (founded by the Amkodor) is one of the entities that assemble Belarusian machinery in Uzbekistanl. MAZ and KRANTAS GROUP, MTZ and Uzavtosanoat continue cooperation in the production of motor vehicles and tractors. The Belarusian company Marko is implementing a joint footwear production project in Uzbekistan. Svetlogorsk Welding Electrodes Plant is implementing an investment project to produce welding electrodes in Uzbekistan. MONOLITH ASIA was set up in Tashkent for this purpose. The two countries are also implementing a number of joint projects in the pharmaceutical sector.
