Belarusian meat producers told to anticipate price hike in Russia

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Belarusian companies should be ready to sell meat products on the Russian market. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions as he met with members of government and representatives of the regional administrations on 7 August, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “The significance of meat and milk will continue rising primarily on the Russian market, the main market for us. We’ve been hearing multiple reports that prices for meat products in Russia are going to climb high because the raw materials are getting more expensive. In other words, Russia has no meat. This is why we should be ready to trade on our main markets without forgetting the domestic one. Mind the prices. Some heads may roll. Not only the trade minister’s.”

Speaking about the development of the dairy industry, the head of state noted that the steps taken earlier had been justified. “The things our so-called opposition, production managers, and politicians have been saying turned out to be simple trash. When we started retooling our outdated farms in the past and converting them into dairy complexes, we’ve saved agriculture, so to say, because milk generates profits these days. At last our people have started eating good food. Then there is export. Wherever we may ship the products, the feedback is most positive. In other words, we now know how to work with milk,” stated the president.

Yet Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the fact that instructions to build dairy complexes still stand: the construction of all the planned facilities needs to be finished.
