MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Belarusian-Lithuanian consultations on technical and scientific aspects of building the Belarusian nuclear power plant will take place in Vilnius on 21-22 June, the press service of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry told BelTA.
According to the source, Belarusian and Lithuanian experts are supposed to meet in Vilnius on 21-22 June 2016 for the sake of bilateral consultations that will focus on the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project. The meeting will be held as a result of the recommendations expressed during the 35th session of the Implementation Committee of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) in March 2016.
Representatives of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry told BelTA that during the bilateral consultations the sides intend to talk over a number of matters. The number includes the evaluation of the location of the construction site and the reasons behind it, the evaluation of the seismic safety of the Ostrovets site and alternative locations. The consultations are supposed to produce a joint Belarusian-Lithuanian report that will be discussed during the 36th session of the Implementation Committee in September 2016.
During the consultations the Belarusian side will be represented by over 20 specialists of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry, the Energy Ministry, and other central government agencies.
