GRODNO,11 July (BelTA) - Grodno Oblast took part in a business presentation of twin cities on the sidelines of the Forum on the Silk Road Cooperation and Development in Gansu Province of China, BelTA learned from the press service of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

"More than 15 years of relations between our regions have been marked by a number of achievements," Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Karanik said during the presentation. “We have gone from  friendship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and iron brotherhood. This has manifested in the growth of trade, joint investment projects in various fields, mutual exchange of visits, bilateral participation in exhibitions and fairs."

A memorandum of friendly exchanges and cooperation was signed between the city of Qingyang of Gansu Province and Slonim District of Grodno Oblast.

In an interview with Chinese media, Vladimir Karanik stressed that it is not the first time that the region's enterprises have taken part in the Lanzhou exhibition, but every time they find new partners, new contracts. Major industries of Grodno Oblast are meat and dairy, food production, woodworking and chemistry. The cooperation agreement was signed back in 2007, and since then relations have been growing in investment, traditional Chinese medicine, mutual supplies of food products, engineering and chemical products.

Vladimir Karanik stressed that the People's Republic of China is a major trading partner for Grodno Oblast, which, despite its geographical remoteness, ranks fifth in the region's export structure. There are many more areas of activity where the parties can establish effective mutually beneficial cooperation, Vladimir Karanik said.

It will be interesting for Chinese citizens to see our country, and we must create all opportunities for this, Vladimir Karanik noted. One of the projects that is currently being implemented by a company from Gansu Province is the modernization of Grodno’s largest hotel as the first step towards intensifying the exchange of tourists.

Vladimir Karanik expressed confidence that the support of the heads of the two states will bring cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
