Belarusian economy’s appeal for investors emphasized at Grodno forum

Belarusian economy’s appeal for investors emphasized at Grodno forum

GRODNO, 6 September (BelTA) – The motto of the international economic forum taking place in Grodno is modern reality and new opportunities. The forum is taking place in a strong region and opens up new opportunities not only for Grodno Oblast but also for other regions of the country. Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar made the statement at the forum, which is taking place in the oblast capital on the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the region and of Grodno City Day, BelTA has learned.

Yuri Chebotar said: “Many great results Belarus has achieved in its dynamic development depend on the efficiency of regional authorities, too. We have a quality and balanced economy. We’ve seen minimal inflation and a stable exchange rate of the national currency lately. All of it attracts investors and enables conditions conducive to further growth.”

The economy minister noted that Grodno Oblast had achieved the highest growth rate of the gross regional product in the current period among all the oblasts of the country. The figure exceeds 108%. It is truly a very good indicator, he said. Yuri Chebotar added that Grodno Oblast has been developing rather steadily for the last few years.

“The Belarusian economy is socially oriented. People are in the center of our attention,” Yuri Chebotar stressed. “As we developed the regions, we followed the principle of creating a comfortable environment for the life and work of the people. Strong regions represent one of the key state priorities. A lot of attention is paid to cities with the population of over 80,000. Lida District is covered by the program. It has become one of Belarus’ top three cities in terms of development of cities with the population of over 80,000 people. Construction and renovation of medical institutions, kindergartens, and other social facilities are in progress everywhere. The ‘One district – one project’ program is being successfully implemented. Essentially it has already gone beyond the initial concept. Virtually every other district has two or three modern projects.”

The economy minister informed participants of the forum about the innovations introduced into Belarusian legislation in order to facilitate economic growth. He talked about the advantages the new law on investments opens up before businesses. The law has come into force this year. The economy minister also talked about compensations for investments. The website export.by was mentioned. It contains all the useful information such as market analysis, country-specific guides, a wealth of educational information, and many other things. Speaking about the development of free economic zones, the minister noted that the Grodno FEZ is the country’s second free economic zone in terms of development dynamics. It falls behind only the metropolitan FEZ. An industrial park is being built in the Grodno FEZ in order to offer premises for manufacturing enterprises. It is Belarus’ first FEZ to come up with this initiative.

Taking part in the forum are representatives of the diplomatic corps of Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India, Iran, Zimbabwe, Palestine as well as guests from Grodno’s twinned cities, representatives of the private sector of the Russian Federation, China, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye.
