Belarusian-Czech trade up $540m since 2009

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – The trade between Belarus and the Czech Republic has gone up more than $540 million since 2009, the Embassy of Belarus in the Czech Republic told BelTA following the 7th meeting of the mixed commission on economic, industrial and sci-tech cooperation in Ostravice, the Czech Republic.

“Since 2009, when the mixed commission gathered for its first meeting, the trade between the two countries has increased from $296.8 million to $540.2 million, the export has gone up from $58.6 million to $128.7 million,” the embassy said. Belarus’ main exports to the Czech Republic include petrochemical products, unalloyed steel wire, potash fertilizers, synthetic yarn, aluminium metal structures, insulated conductors, cables, truck and tractor component parts and other goods. The number of commodity items in the Belarusian export has been constantly increasing (a 110-item increase during 2009-2014).

According to the embassy, cooperation with Belarus is profitable for the Czech Republic. Thus, in 2014 the Czech Republic exported almost $300 million worth of goods to Belarus. Belarus imported machinery and equipment for modernization projects at its energy, petrochemical, engineering, agrarian and forestry complexes.

After the meeting the parties signed a protocol for governmental support in the implementation of projects. The mixed commission was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Alexander Guryanov and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Jiri Koliba.
