MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange with the participation of the National Agency for Investment and Privatization held consultations with the Dutch retailer VidaXL regarding the implementation of a large-scale investment project in woodworking in Belarus, BUCE spokesman Roman Yaniv told BelTA.

The project provides for setting up a production and logistics hub with a factory to make furniture from chipboards and solid wood. The factory is designed to process about 700,000 cubic meters of coniferous wood. In this regard, when choosing a site for construction, the focus will be on availability of the necessary wood resources.

According to the representative of ViaXL, all finished products will be exported, so the priority attention will be attached to the quality of raw materials and their availability.

"The site for the construction of a furniture factory will be crucial for the efficiency of its work and the competitiveness of products. In order for the investment project to reach self-sufficiency as soon as possible, it is important to ensure the full utilization of production capacities and work out logistics issues. We expect that the analytical data of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange will help us decide on the optimal location for the factory. We are currently choosing between Mogilev and Brest, but, perhaps, after a more detailed study, we will explore other sites too. It will be especially interesting to follow the prices by region because the price for raw materials is one of the key factors affecting the cost, and BUCE is a primary source of the information we need,” he said.

Apart from the sales of commercial timber in Belarus and information about prices for the most demanded varieties, the VidaXL representative was also interested in other BUCE activities. In particular, the parties discussed prospects of exchange trade in fruit and vegetable products and fertilizers. There are also plans to work out ways to develop cooperation in the segment of industrial and consumer goods. The BUCE electronic B2B-platform can be used for the sale of certain types of products of the holding company, including to third countries, using the mechanism of transit transactions.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry, and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
