Belarusian-Chinese agricultural microbiology center opened in Harbin

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – A Belarusian-Chinese agricultural microbiology center was opened in Harbin, China, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.

Initially the center is supposed to implement the project for developing a microbe-powered technology to liquidate oil pollution and emergency oil spills. The center will also endeavor to create a pilot zone for cleaning oil pollution in China.

During the opening ceremony Emilia Kolomiyets, Director General of the Belarusian state R&D group Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnologies, Director of the Microbiology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Professor Zhang Jie-chi, Director of the Microbiology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province, signed a cooperation agreement. The document provides for joint scientific research in agricultural microbiology areas, which are of current interest for both countries. The document also provides for assimilating scientific results into practice, for sharing scientific information and enabling systemic highly effective interaction.

The founders of the agricultural microbiology center are the Microbiology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Microbiology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province. The operation of the new agency will be aimed at mutually beneficial cooperation for the sake of ensuring great economic effects from introducing and commercializing biotechnologies.
