Belarusian Belgospishcheprom reports progress in import-substitution effort

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – In January-September 2023, the Belarusian food industry concern Belgospishcheprom produced $425 million worth of import-substituting goods, head of Belgospishcheprom Oleg Zhidkov told the media on the sidelines of the Prodexpo 2023 food show, BelTA has learned.

"Today, our concern is focused on import substitution. Every year our enterprises increase the output of such goods, thereby reducing the foreign exchange burden on the economy of our country and saturating the market with high-quality products", Oleg Zhidkov added.

In January-September 2023, the Belarusian food industry concern Belgospishcheprom produced $425 million worth of import-substituting goods. These products are on sale in Belarusian stores.

"The confectionery and canning industries, in particular those companies that can fruits and vegetables, including for babies and school meals, face the biggest challenge in terms of import subsitution. We have also been working to replace imports of alcoholic beverages," Oleg Zhidkov added.

The 29th edition of the international food show Prodexpo 2023 is taking place in Minsk on 14-17 November. For more than two decades, the exhibition has been introducing advanced production technologies in the food industry, promoting new brands, saturating the domestic market with quality food and beverages, promoting international cooperation and exchange of experience between leading food manufacturers. This year the forum features 126 participants from five countries. These are enterprises from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Turkmenistan. The exhibition program will include business events to discuss problems and prospects for the food industry market development, and also negotiations between retailers, suppliers and manufacturers. The exhibition will host tasting contests, an international symposium of bakers, a culinary cup and many more.
