MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Unmanned haul trucks made by the Belarusian automobile engineering company BelAZ and controlled remotely using 5G technology are being trialed in the Republic of Khakassia, Russia, BelTA has learned.

For several weeks the BelAZ trucks will be used at the open-pit coal mine Chernogorsky. Drivers will have to control their vehicles remotely thanks to 5G technology.

BelAZ-7513R trucks with the carrying capacity of 130 tonnes are the models being trialed. 5G coverage is available in an area 1.5km long. The network covers the entire length of the route the unmanned vehicles use as part of the coal-mining operation.

BelAZ takes an active part in joint pilot projects aimed at assimilating innovative technologies, the company’s press service told BelTA. It helps expand the product lineup to satisfy the market requirements as much as possible.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) BelAZ is the managing company of the holding company BelAZ. BelAZ is the world's leading manufacturer of haul trucks and transport equipment for mining industry and civil engineering industry. BelAZ accounts for some 30% of the world market of haul trucks with an extremely large carrying capacity. The company makes the world’s largest haul truck with the carrying capacity of 450 tonnes.
