MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) - Belarus is working out new investment projects with Türkiye, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said at a plenary session of the Belarusian-Turkish joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Ankara on 8 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the minister, the countries have established active investment cooperation. “My counterpart has voiced a figure of $1.5 billion. This is the volume of Turkish investments in the Belarusian economy,” he said.

A cellular communication project with Turkcell’s participation is implemented in Belarus. At the end of 2022, the Turkish company became the owner of 100% of the Belarusian cellular operator.

“A number of other projects with the participation of Turkish capital are being successfully implemented in Belarus, quality products are being manufactured, which are in demand not only in Belarus, but also beyond its borders - in the countries of our region. A number of projects are under development. All this shows that in today's difficult times, those who want to act, look for opportunities and work successfully, while those who don't want to or can't - look for reasons and excuses,” Sergei Aleinik said.

According to him, Belarus is ready to offer Turkish partners sites for the implementation of profitable, promising projects and provide preferences in free economic zones of Belarus. A special preferential regime is available in the Great Stone Industrial Park. “Turkish business has such initiatives. We discussed them yesterday. We will continue discussing them today. We hope for the arrival of Turkish business in the economy of Belarus,” the minister said.

He is confident that active interaction and a pragmatic approach to cooperation will help Belarus and Türkiye reach an even higher level of multifaceted relations. “Here we have good developments, which we will have to jointly realize in the very near future. In this context, I would like to emphasize the parties' interest in further expansion of the legal framework of our relations, which currently includes 40 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. We agreed to continue this work in the annex to our final protocol, which contains a list of eight agreements on which we agreed to accelerate joint work,” the diplomat said.

It is expected that the protocol of the intergovernmental commission meeting will become a new program of action, a kind of roadmap for the development of bilateral economic relations in the short and medium term and will help Belarus and Türkiye to more fully use the available opportunities for cooperation.
