MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) hosted Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Belarus Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Al Musharrakh. The Emirati diplomat held talks with Chairman of the BelCCI Mikhail Myatlikov, the press service of the BelCCI told BelTA.

The parties discussed general issues of cooperation between the business circles of Belarus and the UAE, events organized by chambers of commerce and industry, including at the level of regional chambers of commerce and industry and the exhibition enterprise Belinterexpo.

The ambassador reviewed the work to promote Belarus-UAE trade and economic relations during his diplomatic tenure in Belarus. He emphasized that a number of projects had been successfully implemented, yet much remains to be done to unlock cooperation potential. "Despite a record growth in trade this year, it is still far from the targets declared by the two countries’ leadership," he noted. According to him, Belarus and the UAE have achieved certain results in cooperation in investments, security, and education. Promising areas include transport and logistics and food security. Belarus views the UAE as a hub to enter the markets of other Gulf countries. The UAE is interested in opening offices of Belarusian enterprises in the UAE.

In turn, the chairman of the BelCCI remarked that it is necessary to hold bilateral business events involving industry experts. He also believes that Belarusian enterprises will benefit from taking part in exhibitions in the UAE as they will be able to build contacts with partners from around the world.

Speaking about cooperation through the chambers of commerce and industry, Mikhail Myatlikov noted that agreements are currently being implemented with the UAE Federation of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the chambers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. There are plans to expand partnerships with other emirates.

The parties discussed the possibility of organizing a visit of the Belarusian delegation to one or several emirates, as well as holding a national exposition in the UAE next year.

The ambassador expressed his readiness to assist in promoting Belarus and establishing bilateral business contacts, as well as to facilitate cooperation through the chambers of commerce and industry.
