Belarus, USA discuss status of negotiations on Belarus’ WTO accession

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – The status of the negotiations on Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), drafting and adoption of the necessary documents were discussed at a meeting between Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Zaborovsky and Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative for Russia and Eurasia Elizabeth Hafner on 4 November, BelTA learned from the public relations department of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

Alexander Zaborovsky noted that the meeting with Elizabeth Hafner was preceded by a meeting between Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky and Charges d’affaires of the United States to Belarus Robert Riley. He stressed that the intensified dialogue will contribute to the development of the bilateral relations between Belarus and the United States.

“We believe that we have good chances of reaching new levels of cooperation in investments and bilateral trade, and also in other areas. We see some positive signals. We cannot directly influence private business and its investment decisions, but we can create favorable conditions for investments and work out the best ways to support the economic growth. Such support from the state can minimize the uncertainties that business is faced with, which will bolster the ties, contacts and business cooperation between Belarusian and US companies,” Alexander Zaborovsky said.
