Belarus, UAE to bolster ties in standardization

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) - Belarus and the United Arab Emirates will cooperate in the field of standardization, metrology and accreditation. A package of relevant documents was signed in a ceremony in the State Committee for Standardization in Minsk on 12 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the committee.

A memorandum of understanding between the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization and the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (EASM) was signed by the committee chairman Viktor Nazarenko and EASM Director General Abdulla Al Maeeni. The parties agreed to develop cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, training and information exchange and also application of halal product standards.

Deputy Director of the Belarusian State Accreditation Center Vladimir Sharamkov and Dr. Rehab Al Ameri, the Director of the National Accreditation System, signed a memorandum of understanding between their organizations. Another memorandum of understanding on cooperation in halal accreditation was inked by Vladimir Sharamkov and Abdulla Al Maeeni.

The package of documents has been prepared in the furtherance of the agreements reached during the fourth meeting of the joint committee on cooperation between the governments of Belarus and the UAE held in Abu Dhabi in May.

“The documents are aimed at assisting our economic entities in overcoming any technical barriers to export their products to each other's markets, in this case of Belarusian food products to the market of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf states in general,” Belarusian Ambassador to the UAE Roman Golovchenko said. He and UAE's Ambassador to Belarus Ahmed Manqoosh Alteneiji attended the signing ceremony of documents.

For his part, Viktor Nazarenko expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will be growing stronger. “In a very short time, we realized that the technical regulation systems in our countries are very similar. We also met highly-qualified professionals. We hope that the documents we signed today will make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation, trade promotion, which will be very important for our countries,” he noted.
