Belarus, Turkey may use national currencies in mutual trade

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkey may turn to national currencies in mutual trade, Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in an interview to ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We may turn to the trade using the national currencies. We can introduce such cooperation based on the agreements between the national banks of Belarus and Turkey,” Binali Yildirim said.

According to the Turkish prime minister, Belarus is a country with advanced agriculture, mechanical engineering, and truck production. “The free economic zones of Belarus are open for the joint production of components parts for vehicles. We can both invest and sell the goods to third countries,” he said. Turkey is open to investing in the areas where Belarus holds a strong footing, i.e. the manufacturing of trucks, combine harvesters, grain harvesting and snow cleaning equipment.

Turkey invests in the construction of hotels, housing and companies in Belarus.

The Turkish prime minister also views as promising to cooperate in the area of digital technologies, with Belarus actively developing infrastructure for economic digitization and its legal framework.

An increase in the number of direct flights between Belarus and Turkey will contribute to the growth of mutual tourist flows. “Belarus is an island of stability in the region, free of external threats and terrorism,” Binali Yildirim stressed.
