Belarus’ trade performance best in 7-8 years

Belarus’ trade performance best in 7-8 years

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarus’ foreign trade performance and balance of payments are better than in the previous 7-8 years, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said on the air of Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

“The pandemic opened up certain niches in international trade, in other words, we saw an increased demand for certain commodities. Luckily, most of these commodities are produced in Belarus. We managed to take advantage of this situation. That was not just a matter of luck, though. Of course not. The results were achieved due to hard, painstaking work, including under the conditions of sanctions,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, Belarus has the best foreign trade and balance of payments indicators over the past 7-8 years. “And if we leave out one year, then, probably, over the past 15 years. This is really an achievement of the Belarusian economy. However, this was not done in government offices. It was a smooth teamwork of all economic operators – from workers who produce goods, to ministries and departments, industry regulators,” the prime minister said.

Roman Golovchenko emphasized that real salaries, household incomes and pensions are growing. “Of course, we would like them to be bigger. Anyway, we are already ahead of our own plans set for this year. And this is all happening in a very difficult external environment,” he stated.
