Belarus touted as springboard to promote Thai goods to EEU, EU

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - Belarus could be a springboard to promote Thai goods to the markets of the EEU and the EU, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said during the first Belarusian-Thai Business Forum in Bangkok, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Vladimir Andreichenko delivered a welcoming speech to the representatives of the business communities of the two countries attending the forum. He stressed that this event will contribute significantly to the development of a roadmap for business cooperation.

“In view of its geographical position Belarus could be a springboard to promote Thai goods to the markets of the European Union and Eurasian Economic Union,” the Speaker said. He recalled that over the past ten years the Belarusian-Thai trade has increased almost 5 times. “However, we cannot be satisfied with the level of trade and economic relations because it does not match the existing potential,” believes Vladimir Andreichenko. “Therefore we now pay the greatest attention to the development of the legal framework which will help increase the flow of investment, bolster industrial cooperation. An important step in this direction will be the imminent establishment of the joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to the Speaker, the two countries have something to offer each other. “Thailand is a country with developed industry and agriculture.

We would like to see large Thai companies on our market. We are ready to increase the direct import of rubber, rice, seafood and other goods,” he said.

In turn, Belarusian manufacturers can also significantly expand the list of products they supply to Thailand. These are agricultural machines, trucks and dump trucks, chemical products and potash fertilizers and modern devices and technology in security, medicine and much more. Building up cooperation in the field of tourism is promising too.

According to the press service, before the forum Vladimir Andreichenko met with Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Isara Vongkusolkit. The parties expressed their support for the increase of the presence of Belarusian and Thai goods on the markets of each other.

The Belarusian parliamentary delegation is in Thailand on an official visit on 14-18 March.
