MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Railways intends to transport over 4,000 container trains between China and Europe and between Europe and China in 2018, BelTA learned from Belarusian Railways First Deputy Head Igor Shilov before the first container train from the Chinese city of Shijiazhuang arrived at the Kolyadichi terminal on 21 June.
The official said: “Belarusian Railways pays close attention to the development of freight transportation with China. This kind of transportation develops rapidly thanks to efforts of the sides. This year we intend to transport over 4,000 container trains from China to Europe and from Europe to China via Belarusian Railways.”
Igor Shilov also thanked all the parties, who had made regular container freight transportation from Hebei Province, China possible. Trains are expected to travel from Hebei Province to Belarus 3-4 times per month and from Belarus to Hebei Province 2 times per month. “We are convinced it will be a success. We invite Belarusian companies to avail themselves of the capabilities of the new route,” concluded the first deputy head of Belarusian Railways.
Hebei Province will be the 13th Chinese province the Belarusian transport and forwarding company Belintertrans – Transport-Logistics Center (BTLC) of Belarusian Railways cooperates with in delivering container freight.
Belarusian Railways puts efforts into developing container transportation via the border checkpoints Brest – Terespol, Bruzgi-Kuznica Bialostocka, and Svisloch – Siemianowka where trains switch from the 1,520mm track to the 1,435mm track and backwards as they carry freight between the East and the West. Belarusian Railways intends to resume freight transportation via the Vysoko-Litovsk – Czeremcha border checkpoint by the end of the year.
